This month we’re getting to know Onyx Health’s Junior Designer Chloe Hogg, to find more about her background, skills and industry know how.
Chloe sat down with Senior Account Executive Elle Bell for a quick Q&A.
Born and bred in the North East. I grew up in Northumberland and decided to move just that little bit closer into the city and study Graphic Design at Northumbria University in Newcastle.
Keeping on brand with Onyx Health’s culture. I am a bit of a gym and exercise fanatic. If I’m not at the gym early in the morning, then you’ll likely find me walking the dog at the beach, just a stone’s throw from my front doorstep.
As cliché as it sounds, I’ve always had a passion for art. After leaving school, I studied art and design at college, where I discovered graphic design. I instantly fell in love with graphic design, I’d never really used technology before to create and design different concepts, well I guess the rest is history.
Yes, there is a difference. Looking at your user experience or UX as it’s referred to in the design world is about putting yourself in the user’s shoes which then helps you to create designs that provide the audience with a meaningful and relevant piece of work. The key difference here between UX and graphic design is that UX is not just about how it looks on the outside but what’s happening behind the scenes to make it user friendly.
I like the challenge that comes with healthcare and pharma design briefs. People may or may not be aware about the certain compliance codes that we have to stick to, so it really makes you think harder as to how to engage your target audience.
I’d say firstly you need to design with a specific user in mind. Do some background research, what are their likes and dislikes? Are there any key trends that will catch the desired audience’s eye? Secondly, user testing is key, keep user testing until you have the right outcome. Lastly, don’t overcrowd your page or space. If your user can’t find the information within eight seconds, then you need to have a re-think.
There are genuinely a lot of bonus’ that come with working at Onyx Health, we have the little perks like office fruit, (office cake) and group activities like lunchtime walks and runs. I think the biggest perk of working here is the trust that you are given the moment you step through the door on the first day. Even as a junior designer I am trusted with client briefs and given responsibility not according to my title but to my ability.
