Sponsoring Innovation in the North East and North Cumbria

Last night, Onyx Health attended the Bright Ideas in Heath Awards 2016 at the Hilton Hotel Newcastle Gateshead.  For the second year running, we sponsored the SME Innovation Category, where regional companies were invited to showcase the development of their innovative technology, design or process that has produced a major improvement to either business performance, end user benefit or patient care.

With keynote speakers such as Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, Medical Director of NHS England, it is no wonder the annual competition is now in its 13^th year and attracted its highest ever number of entries, with 200 bright ideas submitted across the 5 categories:

• Innovative Medical Technology or Device
• Service Improvement
• Innovation in Primary Care
• SME Innovation
• Patient and Public Involvement; Making Research Better

The award ceremony is organised by NHS Innovations North on behalf of the Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria and recognises healthcare innovation from across our region, which is developed by NHS staff and healthcare SMEs.

The finalists of the SME Innovation in Healthcare Category included a Collection of Bone Fragility Data in Routine Fracture Scans by Ibex Innovations Ltd and an Improved Pressure Relief by Mammoth Technologies but the winner of the night was Pelviva by Femda Ltd.

Their idea has been specifically designed to tackle urinary incontinence in women.  Pelviva has the ability to completely change the landscape of the primary treatment of female stress, urgency and mixed incontinence.
